Soul

This week I was looking through Tivo and I started watching the Grammy's from two weeks ago.  One of the best performances in my opinion was by Bruno Mars.  I liked his remake of his hit song "Grenade" which was performed in black and white.

His inspiration for this performances came from soul music from the 1960's.  A lot of new artist are releasing mediocre music at the best. I thought that it was clever of him to pay homage to artist in the past, such as the temptations. Soul music combines elements from genres such as gospel music and rhythm and blues. According to the rock and roll hall of fame soul is,”music that arose out of the black experience in America through the transmylation of gospel and rythm & blues into a form of funky, secular testifying music".

This Genre of music is very vocal, and is why it fits Bruno Mars very well.  He is a very good singer and his performance skills would have made him a great artist in the 1960's if he were to be alive during that era of music.  So enough of my just rambling on and analyzing this genre of music. Here is the clip of his performance form this years Grammy's:

Led Zeppelin

Sometimes when I have a long day and am just super tired I like to go home and play some Led Zeppelin.  There is just something that attracts me to this guitar driven Blues-Rock sound.  My taste in music varies a lot from all types of genres. I really was never into this type of music until recently.

Once my friend let me hear a Led Zeppelin Song on his ipod, I suddenly fell in love with the sound. Led Zeppelin are considered to be one of the most successful, innovative, and influential bands in the history of Rock music. Some of my favorite songs have to be what is and what should never be, since I've been loving you, stairway to heaven, whole lotta love, and dazed and confused.

The song that I am posting this week is Dazed and Confused.  I really enjoy the slow blues rhythm in the beginning which later progresses to a faster pace towards the dark parts of the song. Overall, It is the change in Rhythm and vocals utilized in the song that makes it one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs

Study Time

So I planned on having a great day today........ until it started raining.  I usually love the rain except for when it ruins my plans for the day.  Well at least it gives me time to study and finish the rest of my homework that I have do this upcoming week.  Since I have a song for like every occasion, I thought I'd share with you what I listen to when I study :)

I love music so I'm not prejudice against any genre, but typically a lot of friends make fun of me when they look through the music I have in my Ipod.  They mainly are confused when they look through my classical playlist. I love classical musical because it makes me feel peaceful at times and very relaxed, which is why I listen to it when I'm studying.

The piece of music That I will post this week is Nocture Op. 9 No. 2 in E Flat Major by Frederic Chopin. Chopin is one of my favorite composers of all time and is known as one of the great masters of romantic music (music from the romantic period between the 1800's and 1900's). He has influences from Beethoven and Mozart, but his style is different.

Being from the Romantinic Period his music not only shows the happiness that a lot of classical music shows but the darkness and his pieces are more passionate and expressive just like many pieces of art from this period.

Valentines Day =]

Well I hope everyone had a Happy Day or for some people just another Monday. I thought I would blog about Valentines Day music since there were a bunch of songs on the radio yesterday.

So I am going to continue to change up genres and for this week I am doing pop/acoustic. This isn’t really my preference for music but since its valentines day I felt in the mood for it.

The song that I am posting this week is “Valentine” by Kina Grannis. Kina Grannis was a student at USC and then made an album through the music department. She then created a youtube page and upload some videos of her singing, one of which she entered to Pepsi for a contest. She then went on to twin the contest and was rewarded with a spot on a commercial during the Super Bowl, which then started her career into the music business.

I really like this song and my friend told me I should really post this song since its valentines day and she always sings it all the time. Also the music video is very interesting and very cool and yet simple at the same time.

Music doesn't lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music -Jimi Hendrix

So every week i will try to change up genres of music in my post as much as i can and try to provide a variety of music for everyone that i enjoy.

This past week i went to a small club/venue that holds events every wednesday and the majority of the music being played is categorized under the genre of Drum&Bass and another genre known as Dubstep.
For those of you that haven't heard of Dubstep, it basically originated in the UK and has recently made its way into the United states. It is characterized by its heavy bass lines, drum patterns, samples, and occasionally some vocals. This is definitely not the type of music that you would sit down and play while you are trying to study. Personally i listen to it on occasion while i workout to get me pumped up or just to test out the bass in my car and see how loud my speakers go.

This song that i am going to put up is actually a remix of a john legend song called heartbreaker. I would say it has to be one of my favorites due to the fact that the producer took the time to create a good remix and not just throw on some heavy bass drops that a lot of people are doing in the Dubstep scene now a days, this has unfortunately given this genre the title of "annoying robot music" which a lot of people think about when they hear the word Dubstep.

P.S.      I would recommend skipping the video to around 50seconds, thats when the song really starts :)

One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.

Music has been a part of me for my whole LIFE.
The power it beholds is incredible.....
It is the only thing that can make you happy when nothing else seems to work.....
It helps you relive memories of certain events or of certain people in your life....
It is a form of art that you can express your self.....

So basically this blog will revolve around different genres of music that I enjoy.
The genres of music will range from country to electronic dance music to rap and to other different kinds.
Besides Music, I will also post about things in my life such as fashion, technology, or other random things that I find interesting enough to share with others.

So I guess for my first post I'll put up a video from youtube that I recently seen that some one posted on Facebook.
I'm a big fan of covers of other songs and I really like this cover from one of my favorite r&b artists. I actually think that i like this version of the song better because I think that this song would actually be better if a girl sang on it or at least did a duet like these too did. Its also kind of funny since the little kids in the background interrupted, but that didn't seem to stop them from singing.
